TikTok disregards Trump’s ban imposition of the app in the US / Digital Information World

Vanessa Pappas, general manager of TikTok’s business in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, has said that despite the threats by the US President Donald Trump, TikTok is not going anywhere. It will continue its operation and keep providing entertainment to its millions of American users, reports Bloomberg.

The business executives of TikTok believe that they have numerous paths to divulge into and continue their operations in the US, regardless of what Trump or his government says.

Now, that is a very bold statement from TikTok against Trump’s decision. China and the USA are going through political and technological rifts, as a result of which, the US government has already banned operations with some Chinese tech giants like Huawei and Tencent Holdings. Trump is now after TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance and has ‘ordered’ ByteDance to sell off its US business to anyone else because the US government thinks that the app is a threat to the national security. Trump gave an ultimatum to finish off its US business by November 12th under the ruling of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US. (CFIUS.)

However, regardless of all these threats and orders, TikTok is adamant to strongly disagree with the ruling of CFIUS as it demands solid proof and evidence against all the claims and accusations that have been hurling towards the app from all directions.

Several companies like Microsoft, Oracle, and Twitter are found to be taking interest in buying TikTok’s US business as per the reports from Bloomberg. There is not much news about deal negotiations as such. But foreign employees who have been working on a work visa in the US are worried about their salaries as well as their status to stay in the US if the company gets sold. So, Vanessa Pappas has said that they should not worry about their salaries at all as TikTok will make sure to remain true to their commitment with their workforce as well as their consumers. Also, ByteDance has continued to pay its workers in India where a ban on TikTok has already been imposed. So, if ByteDance kept its word with its employees in India after the ban, it surely will find a way for its workers in the US too.

Let us wait and see what happens to TikTok in the end, because disregarding the US government is not an easy feat to achieve! But hats off to TikTok for showing so much bravery in the face of oppression and so much tension.
