Alphabet's Company X is working on EEG technology-based monitoring of brain activity to diagnose the symptoms of depression / Digital Information World

Alphabet’s X is reportedly working on a project to monitor the symptoms of depression for three years now. This experiment related to mental health is known to be Project Amber. According to the recent reports, various neurologist, scientists, and the psychologist are looking forward to finding a new advanced way of monitoring the symptoms of depression or detect the change in the mental health of a person. They have their hands on some prototypes for experimentation for three years.

A blog posted on Monday by X company highlights the details of the procedure that the experts are using for this objective. The Alphabet company aims to use electroencephalography (EEG) to observe brain activity and the mental health of an individual. As reported by Obi Felton, the company has developed hardware that looks like a head cap with colorful wire-like tools to monitor the brain and analyze the data.

It is important to note here that EEG is a technology to measure electrical activity and is not the first time that the experts are using it to tackle any mental health issue. However, Obi Felten claims that their EEG based headset can record, collect, and interpret the data of the brain activity more conveniently.

The plus point is that the company intends to observe the experience of the respective person as a whole along with the prediction of future onsets of depression. Yet, the CEO of Ginger company Russell Glass highlights that even this process won’t help in tackling the root cause of this worldwide mental health problem of depression. As a reminder, Ginger has also significantly worked to diagnose mental health problems in the future. Yet, now it is working to provide its consumers with affordable online therapists and coaches.

Russell Glass claims that any of the advanced technology for diagnosing and monitoring mental health can not help the patients with the treatment they usually need in such situations. It has consequently lead to the escalating shortage of psychiatrists and mental health experts also.

Mental health studies also call for a similar problem. Approximately 60 million people are struggling with mental health problems, but either they are deprived of the costly prescribed medications or are not capable of affording the psychiatrist. Here these type of medical technologies comes to help to diagnose and monitor the mental health conditions.

This Alphabet experimental group also aims for the same. However, this clinical prototype is yet not approved by the United States Food and Drugstore Administration for clinical use. The X lab has announced that they will soon present a report on the results of their research.
