LinkedIn is rolling out Auto-Away messages for Premium users on Mobile / Digital Information World

Matt Navarra, the famous social media industry commentator and consultant has recently shared an interesting update about LinkedIn on Twitter.

As per him, LinkedIn is allowing its Premium users to set up an ‘Auto-Away’ message for their Messaging inbox. Navarra also shared a screenshot with his tweet. It shows the ‘Away Message’ and how it can be enabled by a Premium account user on mobile devices, to put up an ‘away message’ for their connections (just like Gmail’s Out of Office feature). They can set up a start date and an end date for the message to keep displaying for their connections in their messaging inbox.

A default Away message that LinkedIn is providing for the connections of these Premium users says that ‘I am currently away. I will respond to your message when I return.’

According to what is visible from this screenshot that Matt Navarra has shared, the Away Message feature is customizable and has 300 words limit to it. So, this means that users can add some personalized details or reasons to explain why they are away. And since this Away message will only be visible to their connections, it means that they can use colorful and more interesting ways so that their connections do not lose their interest in communicating and engaging with them upon their return.

Away messages are always construed as a polite way to announce to your contacts about your unavailability on different forums and apps. This is especially good if you are a job seeker and you have applied for some jobs. Now, when some employer (who is also one of your connections) tries to contact you through your inbox, they may get miffed off if you do not respond immediately. But, if you were smart enough to put an Away message, they will know that you are currently unavailable, and they will also perceive you as quite responsible in public dealing. This will most likely set a very good impression on future employers.

This new update has a lot of other potential uses and benefits. We hope that LinkedIn decides to bring this feature for other users too, and not just restrict it for the Premium users.
